He was 11 years when he was appointed as the sixth guru and wore a saffron gown and a churidar pyjama along with a turban. He also wore a belt that had two swords. The swords worn by Guru Hargobind represented the philosophy of Miri - Piri. The first sword Miri symbolised power, while the second sword Piri represented spiritual skill. According to historians, Guru Hargobind Singh was both a spiritual and a military leader.
Hargobind Singh emphasised on the importance of introducing militarisation in the Sikh community because it was under the threat of the Mughals. He mobilised an army and named it as Sant Sipahi. Apart from militarisation he also introduced Akal Takht ( supreme seat) where Sikhs from all communities could share their sorrows and asked questions about their faith.
Note: Under Guru Hargobind’s rule The Sikhs were able to defeat the Mughals; he went into a battle with Mughals for three times. Guru Hargobind died on 3 rd March 1644 and then his grandson Guru Har Rai became the seventh guru of the Sikhs.
