Hint:- Semen, which is also known as seminal fluid, which is meant to carry sperm in it along with the fluid which is organic in nature and secreted by gonads and sexual organs of human male. It is produced and secreted from the seminal vesicles which are located in the pelvis.
Complete answer: Semen which is the mixture of organic fluid which contains many nutrients and provides a medium for swimming of spermatozoa which it too contains. Semen has fluid which it has received from seminal vesicles, prostate and bulbourethral glands which forms the semen. Seminal vesicle fluid contains fructose, mucus, enzymes, vitamin C, flavins, phosphatase and prostaglandins, whereas secretion of prostate gland includes calcium, sodium, zinc, potassium, protein splitting enzymes and citric acid. Lastly bulbourethral gland includes mucus which provides nutrition and medium for spermatozoa to swim. Semen is translucent with grey or yellowish tint in it. Blood in the semen can result in colour change and may indicate medical problems. Semen can transfer many sexually transmitted diseases, microorganisms, pathogens, viruses like HIV and Ebola. The content in seminal plasma compensates for a hostile environment for spermatozoa. Spermatozoa is meant to fertilize with a female egg called ovum as they fuse and fertilise it eventually become blastocyst which finally results in a newborn individual after completion of 9 months from the fertilization. Hence by above discussion we concluded that the correct option is (A) Citric acid.
Note:- The process that results in discharge of semen is called ‘Ejaculation’. Ejaculation is the process when semen is discharged from male genital organ when male reaches orgasm. Semen is also a form of genetic material. Semen can also be collected and the process of collection along with preservation is known as cryoconservation.
