Hint: Adam’s apple is formed during puberty as larynx grows during that time. The growth of the larynx is seen much in boys as compared to girls. As the larynx grows much more in boys it is responsible for making voice in boys much deeper as compared to girls.
Complete solution:
Option A) Epiglottis: We know that epiglottis is present at the top of the larynx or voice box and it is the leaf shaped flap of cartilage which is located behind the tongue. Epiglottis performs the important function which is to seal off the winding pipe during eating food so that food is not accidently inhaled.
Option B) Thyroid: Adam’s apple is the ordinary term which is used to describe laryngeal prominence of the thyroid cartilage. Do you know it is bulged on the front of the thyroid cartilage and it is made up of cartilages? Adam’s develops during the stage of puberty and is most prominent in boys.
Option C) Cricoid: Cricoid is a ring of cartilage which surrounds trachea or windpipe and is located at the centre of the neck region. The cartilage of cricoid consists of strong connective tissue and it constitutes the back part of the larynx or voice box.
Option D) Throat: Throat is the front part of the neck and it contains both pharynx and larynx. Epiglottis is the important part of the throat and separates oesophagus from trachea which prevents food and drinks from being directly inhaled into the lungs.
So, Option B is the correct answer.
Note:
Thyroid cartilage is the hyaline structure which is present in front of the larynx and above the thyroid gland. Thyroid cartilage has two halves and it meets at the laryngeal prominence which is also known as Adam’s apple.
