Hint: pH of an aqueous solution can be given by the number of hydronium or hydroxide ions present in moles per liter.
Complete step by step solution:
pH is the measure of how acidic or basic a water-based solution is. It ranges from 0 to 14.
A pH of 7 is considered as neutral and a pH less than 7 is acidic whereas greater than 7 is basic.
Soda water is also called carbonated water. When carbon dioxide is dissolved in water under a specific pressure it forms carbonated water or soda water.
Soda water is also called sparkling or fizzy water as carbonation causes small bubbles to form giving the water a fizzy or aerated quality.
Here the formation of the carbonic acid gives carbonated water a slightly tart flavor.
The pH of soda water ranges between 3 to 4. Which is somewhat the same as apple or orange juice which is acidic in nature.
So, from the above statements we can conclude that soda water is acidic in nature.
Therefore, the correct answer to the question is (b).
Note: Alkaline salts such as sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate can be added to more acidic substances in order to increase the pH i.e. to reduce the acidity. Same can be done to soda water also to balance its acidity.
