Hint :Nowadays optical fiber is being used to transfer data from one place to another in the form of light pulses of light, as it has lowered the losses in the transferring signals and has given us an upper hand to transfer the data to a greater distance from before.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
Optical fiber is preferred as the signal attenuation is much lower and it provides a much higher bandwidth to deliver more data because of the purity of glass and the composition of glass used in it.
In order to use optical fiber as a communicating system we are required to convert the electrical system to a light system, specifically the signal has to be converted into infra-red light. Light can be modulated according to the need. The process of communication can be differentiated into three categories.
Transmitter side: Firstly data needs to be converted into the light pulse, for that if the data is analog, it is sent to a coder or converter circuit which converts the analog signal into digital pulses and then passed through a light source transmitter circuit. But, if the input is digital then it is directly sent through the light source transmitter circuit which converts the signal in the form of light waves.
Optical Fiber Cable: The light pulses from the transmitter end are then taken by optical fiber cable to the receiver end.
Receiver side: Now on the receiver side, a light detector detects the signal and amplifies it if required and then converts the data into a digital signal. If the output data is to be analog then it will be converted further using a decoder.
Note :
Apart from telecommunication, optical fiber nowadays are also used in Surgery, Automotive industry, dentistry, for decoration purposes , mechanical inspection and also military and space.
