- Penicillin was the first known antibiotic which was discovered by Alexander Fleming in the year.
- This antibiotic is obtained from the Penicillium notatum, the fungi which is able to kill the wide range of the bacteria like streptococcus, meningococcus and the diphtheria bacillus.
- Hence these antibiotics are used to cure the diseases that are caused by these bacteria like pneumonia, scarlet fever, infections in the mouth, ear, gum, throat, and the other respiratory diseases.
