Hint:
In India, cattle rearing is an important activity where the animals are kept in a farm, they are fed properly, their medical treatments are done, their proper breeding takes place in order to get various products from them.
Complete answer:
Step 1
We get milk and milk products like butter, ghee, curd, sweets from the cows, and buffaloes. We get wool from the sheep. We get leather, silk, and raw materials for different industrial use. Animal wastes provide a large amount of energy in the form of fuel that is required in the farming sector. Animals like, bullocks, buffaloes, camels, donkeys, horses are used for carrying loads. This important activity earns revenue for our country.
Step 2
Rearing- Animals when kept in our farms with proper care like providing them with proper food, medicine, and taking care of their proper breeding for the purpose of revenue generation is known as cattle rearing. Like cows and buffaloes are reared in a diary farm from where we get milk and thereby milk products and manures which are used as fertilizers or biofuel.
Step 3
Shearing- In the colder countries sheep are reared to obtain wool from the fleece from their skin. Once a year each adult sheep is sworn i.e. their woolen fleece is removed with a layer of their skin. This process is generally done in spring and summer.
Step 4
Sericulture- Silk farming is also known as sericulture. The silkworm feeds the mulberry leaves and they climb up on a twig which is kept near them to spin their silken cocoons. From these silken cocoons, silk threads are drawn and wounded up in reels and piled up to form yarns.
Hence, keeping animals on the farm with proper care to earn revenue from them is known as rearing. The removal of the woolen fleece from the skin of a sheep is known as sheering and obtaining silk threads from the silkworm is known as sericulture.
Note:
India and China are the two major producers of silk in the world. Brazil has the largest inventory of cattle rearing in the world. Australia has a high sheep flock to be used for shearing purposes.
