Complete answer: Hunter-gatherer were prehistoric nomadic groups that harnessed the use of fire. During the Paleolithic age, humans lived as nomads and would hunt their food and would not live permanently in one place. The fire was very important to these hunter-gatherer societies. Archaeologists can observe the importance of fire to these societies through hearths. A hearth is a term for a fireplace. In many archaeologists sites, hearth shows evidence of food, stone tools and other objects. This indicates that all of these different tasks were taking place around the fire leading archaeologists to believe the importance of fire during that time.
Three ways in which hunter-gatherers used fire were:
1. Cooking- They used fire to cook making it safe to eat as they would hunt down animals they used to cook their meat.
2.Scare away wild animals- As these hunter-gatherers would always wander in search of food they were prone to a lot of dangerous wild animals so they would use fire as a source of light when they would go out hunting and also use it to scare the wild animals away.
3. Source of warmth- The hunters-gatherers did not have clothes at that time to keep themselves warm so they used fire as it provides warmth and heat.
We also use fire for cooking and it is a great source of warmth and heat. Thus, we also use fire for the above-mentioned purposes.
