The ‘Gaj Yatra’ is an attempt to celebrate the national heritage animal of India and in creating 100 animal corridors. It is an event that celebrates the Asian elephant. It was partnered by Wildlife Trust of India and International Fund for animal welfare.
Actress Dia Mirza was the brand Ambassador of the event. Elephants are an important part of the ecosystem. They eat fruits and plants and spread them through their dung which helps in germination. This enables rejuvenating nature. Meghalaya in 2014 recorded 1,754 elephants. Most of their habitat is under the community forests.
