Hint: In 2014, the villagers of Garo hills made space in their community owned land to make a safe passage for the elephants. It was heavily acknowledged by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change and the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI).

Complete Step by Step answer: The ‘Gaj Yatra’ was started in the town of Tura in the state of Meghalaya. The ‘Gaj Yatra’ is an attempt to celebrate the national heritage animal of India and in creating 100 animal corridors. It is an event that celebrates the Asian elephant. It was partnered by Wildlife Trust of India and International Fund for animal welfare.
Actress Dia Mirza was the brand Ambassador of the event. Elephants are an important part of the ecosystem. They eat fruits and plants and spread them through their dung which helps in germination. This enables rejuvenating nature. Meghalaya in 2014 recorded 1,754 elephants. Most of their habitat is under the community forests.
Elephants and humans have coexisted for a long time in Meghalaya. However with time ,industrialization has destroyed the habitats of elephants and this has caused conflict between man and the wildlife.

Note: The Gaj Yatra has made a holistic approach in order to reduce conflict. While answering this question do not get confused between the places where this event was started in India with other states that have a large elephant population. The Gaj Yatra called for preservation of wildlife.
