The first battle of Panipat was fought on 21st April 1526. The battle took place between Babur and Ibrahim Lodhi. The battle led to the beginning of the Mughal empire and the end of the Delhi Sultanate. Babur started this battle from Punjab where he found the forces of Ibrahim Lodhi as a result he sent Alam Khan with his troops. The techniques used by Babur in this battle include “Tulguhuma” and the “Araba”. The tactic “Tulghuma” means a division of the army and “Araba” means putting carts in front of the army. Gunpowder firearms and field artillery were also used in this battle. The battle resulted in the death of Ibrahim Lodhi with his 20,000 troops. With this battle, Babur got new land and the establishment of his Mughal Empire. The Mughal Empire lasted till 1857 and its capital was Fatehpur Sikri, Agra.

Additional Information:
The second battle of Panipat took place on 5th November 1556 between Hemu and Akbar. Akbar won this battle. The third battle of Panipat took place on 14th January 1761 between the Maratha empire and the Afghan army. As a result, Afghan army won the battle.

Note:
The tactics used by Babur were not known to the Indians. The archer’s of Babur were also well trained which also helped him to win the battle. Ibrahim Lodhi was not aware of so many defensive arrangements.
