- Family: The next category that takes place after genus is family. It comprises various groups of related genera, which share less number of similarities as compared to that of genus and species.
- Genus: It is a group of commonly related species, and they possess many characters in common in comparison to species of other genera.
- Species: it is the basic unit of classification used by John Ray . It is defined as a group of proper and potentially interbreeding populations that are reproductively isolated and separated from other such groups.

Note: Taxonomists have also made development by producing some sub- categories like subphylum or subdivision etc. in this hierarchy to make the arrangement more transparent and scientifically useful.
