Hint: The word hydro itself is related with water. Thus the term hydro energy shows the production of energy from water. For generating hydro energy dams and reservoirs are constructed. This type of energy is created from falling or fast running water by using a turbine. This turbine converts one form of energy to another.

Complete step by step answer:
Hydro energy is the conversion of hydroelectric power into electricity. Hydropower refers to the force of water flow that turns turbines and power generators, and then stores the electricity into power grids for mass consumption. The hydropower process may be a clean renewable energy resource because the water cycle occurs naturally. A turbine converts the K.E. of falling water into energy . Then a generator converts the energy from the turbine into electricity . The most used method to generate hydro energy is by the construction of dam and reservoir.
In India there are 197 hydropower plants above 25 MW, and nine pumped stations.

Additional information:
Advantage of Hydroelectric energy:
(1)Renewable – Hydroelectric energy is renewable.
(2) Generating electricity with hydropower is pollution free.
(3)Hydroelectricity is very reliable energy.
(4)Compared to other fossil fuels and nuclear energy, Hydroelectricity is much safer.
Disadvantage of Hydroelectric energy
(1)The construction of many dams, construction of roads and power lines may sometimes lead to environmental consequences.
(2)Building power plants is expensive.
(3)There is a chance of drought at least in some areas.

Note:
The falling or fast running water possesses mechanical energy and the turbine converts it into electrical energy. This form of energy is known as Hydroelectric energy or Hydro power. The hydropower process is a of naturally occuring renewable energy resource .Generating electricity with hydropower is pollution free.
