Hint:We have to know the definition of opposing reactions. Opposing reactions are the same as reversible reactions, where the products could again form reactants. Opposing reactions are distinct from reversible processes in thermodynamics. Generally, weak acids and weak bases undergo reversible reactions.
Complete step by step answer:
We need to know that the few chemical reactions where the products of chemical change react to give the original reactions are called as opposing reactions (or) reversible reactions. In these reactions, the forward rate as well as the backward rate influences the net rate of the reaction and some strong disturbances in the measurement of reaction are also caused.
We can write a simple reversible reaction (or) opposing reaction where both reactions belong to first order as,
$A\underset{{K'}}{\overset{K}{\longleftrightarrow}}B$
Two arrows one pointing in each direction represents opposing reactions. We can also use two half arrowheads to represent opposing reactions. We have to know that the arrow that goes in the right direction is the forward reaction and the arrow that goes in the left direction is the backward reaction.
Some of the examples of opposing reactions,
-Carbon monoxide reacts with nitrogen dioxide to form carbon dioxide and nitrogen monoxide. We can write the chemical reaction as,
$CO\left( g \right) + N{O_2}\left( g \right)\underset{{{k_b}}}{\overset{{{k_f}}}{\longleftrightarrow}}C{O_2}\left( g \right) + NO\left( g \right)$
-Dissociation of hydrogen iodide to hydrogen and iodine is also an example of an opposing reaction. We can write the chemical reaction as,
-Isomerization of cyclopropane to propene is also example of opposing reaction
Therefore, the option (C) is correct.
Note:
We must remember that in chemical kinetics, there are three kinds of opposing reactions. They are,
-Forward reaction as well as backward reactions are of first order.
-First order reaction is different by second order.
-Forward reaction as well as backward reactions are of second order.
