Gir Forest National park is a wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat. It is a part of the Khatar-For dry deciduous forests ecoregion. It is famous for Asiatic lions. It was established to protect the Asiatic lions. The Asiatic lions are endangered species and Gir is the only home for their protection. From 2010 the population of the Asiatic lions in the Gir national park steadily increased. The 14th Asiatic lion census was conducted in the year 2015 ; the population of the lions increased 27 percent when compared to previous census taken in 2010 .The Gir national park was also called as Sasan Gir. The Gir national park was established in 1965 . The location of the Gir national park covers three districts of Gujarat namely Junagadh, Gir Somnath and Amreli districts. The British viceroys brought the idea of the Gir national park in order to protect the Asiatic lions.
