Akbar later moved the capital of his kingdom to Lahore and then to Agra, and Fatehpur Sikri became a completely abandoned city.
Later, when colonial rulers settled in Agra in, they established an administrative center here, this remained in operation ,Monuments to Fatehpur Sikri were erected under the orders of the Marquess of Hastings.
