Hint:The heating effect of electric current can be easily understood with its application. However, before jumping into the applications, it is necessary to understand its definition.
Complete answer:
Definition:When an electric current is passed through a conductor which acts as a resistance wire, the resisting nature of the conductor results in the rise in heat level of the conductor with time. This phenomenon is the heating effect of the electric current.
Applications: The application of the heating effect of the electric current can be understood from various devices like electric iron and electric bulb:
Electric iron: when current is passed through the insulator, mica, that is placed in between the coil and the metal part in iron, the coil becomes heated when the current is passed through the mica to the metallic part and ultimately the metal part becomes heated.
Electric Bulb: Everyone involved in science knows that the electric bulb contains a metallic wire named tungsten metal which is kept in a vacuum or an inert environment with neutral gas. When an electric current is passed through the tungsten metal, it becomes heated and as a result, it emits light.
Note:Apart from the heating effect of electric current in the electric iron and electric bulb, the phenomenon of the heating effect of electric current can also be understood by knowing the applications of some other devices like the electric heater and the electric fuse.
