Hint: Stethoscope is a listening medical device which is used to hear the sounds produced in our body especially from lungs and heart, intestines, blood flowing through arteries and veins. It is commonly used by medical professionals to hear the sounds produced by lungs or measure pulse.

Complete answer:
A stethoscope was developed by Rene Laennec, a French Physician in 1816. He invented a stethoscope because he was not comfortable in listening to the woman's heart beat by placing his ears on her chest. He used a long, rolled paper tube to hear the sound of the patient's chest to his ears.
A simple stethoscope can be made in school by using a match stick and a shirt button.

The steps to be followed are:
1.Remove the black carbon part of the match stick.
2.Then insert the match stick in the button.
3.Place this on the wrist.
4.The movement of the wrist due to the flow of blood in the blood vessels can be read.
5.The pulse can be measured by this method so as the heart beats.

Note: The modern stethoscope is a disc shaped resonator that is placed on the skin. It has two tubes connected to the two earpieces. It is a symbol of a medical professional. The acoustic stethoscope cannot detect the low quality sounds. Nowadays electronic stethoscopes are also available which amplify the low body sounds. Some smartphone apps are also available which can be used as stethoscopes.
