It is an infection of domestic poultry as well as other bird species with virulent Newcastle disease virus (NDV). It is also characterised by digestive, respiratory or nervous signs.

The Ranikhet disease occurs in almost all countries as well as it is normally assumed to be a severe form affecting birds of all ages. Mortality of flows of the disease varies from 50 to 100 percent.
