Hint: The electric appliances are connected with three wires in order to maintain the circuit perfectly. These are the Live wire, Neutral wires and the Earth wire which are generally colour coded red, black/blue and green respectively. For completing the circuit we only need live and neutral wire whereas earth wire, generally coined as the third pic, is connected to the earth for the safety of the circuit.
Complete answer:
For the smooth conduction of electricity through a circuit the circuit must consist of live wire and neutral wire. The earth wire or third pin connection is basically to earth the extra charge or electric current. The metallic body of the electrical appliance is connected to a third pin or earth wire which is connected to the ground.
This protects the safety and avoids electric shock at the end. By doing this the extra charge that flows through the metallic body is transferred to the earth and avoids the chances of electric shock by the appliance. There is nothing like reducing the temperature of the connecting wires with the third connection or by the earth wire.
Hence option (C) is correct.
Note: The three pin connection is mandatory for the heavy electrical appliances such as electric motor, fans, television, refrigerators as these appliances are more likely to give electric shock when connected to the circuit. In such a type of question one should keenly observe the assertion and reasons. Questions may be there regarding heavy electric appliances.
