Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) is a committee formed for joint forest management by village people who live near to Reserved Forests. The JFM includes forest or block forest officer, member secretary, a president and an executive body. The village community's responsibility is to protect and manage the nearby forests.
The communities are required to organize forest protection committees, village forest committees, village forest conservation and development societies, etc.
The main functions of JFM are:
Protection and development of forests
Selecting the plant species that will be planted in the forest,
Advising about physical and financial targets,
Sustainable management of forest resources, restoration of degraded forest land,
Conducting awareness programs and Promoting awareness through environmental education.
Harvesting forest produce and sharing the profits with the village.
The minor forest produces almost free.
