Hint – Difference between the number and its 25 percent is given as 60 so use that to form an equation in one variable.
Let, the number be x then,
According to given condition
Number exceeds 25 percent of itself by 60.
Number = 25 percent of number + 60.
$
\Rightarrow x = \dfrac{{25}}{{100}}x + 60 \\
\Rightarrow x = \dfrac{1}{4}x + 60 \\
$
$
\Rightarrow 4x = x + 240 \\
\Rightarrow 4x - x = 240 \\
\Rightarrow 3x = 240 \\
\Rightarrow x = \dfrac{{240}}{3} = 80 \\
$
So, 80 is the required number.
Note –In such types of problems we use the given conditions very properly to create equations in as less variables as we can so that it remains easier to solve.
