Little Green Frog: A Poem to Ignite Imagination in Kids

Have you ever watched a frog hopping from one place to another? Watching frogs jump from one stone to another, or from land to water tells its characteristics. So he TRIED

wishing only that he had a cup

or a pup who could fish just as well

as a little Froggie could wish,

then he could fry them up to sell,

now that’s just what he could do!

But he didn’t,

so he moved backwards

just a little from the middle

of that old cypress in the mill pond

SPLASH!

suddenly went the rainbow fish,

Why,

it scared the little frog so much

That he couldn’t even wish for a griddle or a dish

as he sat in the middle of that old cypress log

in the mill pond deep down in the middle of dear

So he dreamed of a net,

that would bring home the goods he would bet,

as he sat near  the middle of that old cypress

log deep in the heart of Grand Ma Sadie Bizell’s 

Woods.

SPLASH!

went the fish near the frog

as he dreamed of a net and a dish

and cooking fish on a griddle while he sat

near the middle of that old cypress log

in a mill pond somewhere deep down in good  

Sadie Bizell’s woods.

Well,

just what he was going to do now,

thought the frog as his mind began to bump.

What could be done now but just

JUMP

JUMP

JUMP?

So…HIGH

HIGH

HIGH

did that little froggy fly and all that he

could think was to fear a great

CRASH!

into the cold, damp bank.

SPLASH!

went the fish because the frog had no dish

nor no net that he could bet would put fish on 

the griddle,

because all that he could do was

was to try and jump from the middle of an old cypress

log that lay in a mill pond deep in the middle of

of dear Grandma Sadie Bizell’s woods.”

The Scene at the Pond

One day, the green frog came upon a mill pond and a cypress tree log floating in it. Several multicoloured fish in the pond were swimming with a loud ‘plop’ sound. The poet calls them rainbow fish because they are brightly coloured. As the colourful fish frolicked in the water, the frog felt like someone had waved a magic wand, making this rainbow fish fall from the sky and into the pond.

The fish seemed to disturb the frog, who bent down and clung to the cypress log floating in the pond. He wished that the fish would go away from there as he was getting disturbed by them. The frog started dreaming about cooking those fish on a griddle somewhere in a clearing deep in Grandma Sadie’s woods.

Thoughts of the Tree Frog

The Little Green Tree Frog 

Little green frog lyrics describe how the frog could only dream about catching and cooking the fish. He thought he would hang tight onto the log till he turned blue from tiredness. The little frog hoped that his blue colour would scare away the fish, and they would leave the pond crying.

As the little green frog hugged the cypress log, he wished he had a cup or a puppy for catching those fish. But since he had neither, all he could do was wish for the fish to go away. As the frog was floating on the log in the pond in Grandma Sadie Bizell’s woods, he further imagined that if he could catch the fish, he would have fried them well and sold them in the market.

The Frog Takes the Leap

Since the green frog could do nothing to make the fish disappear, he moved slightly backward on the log, making the fish splash around even more in the water. The fish were startled by the movement of the frog, who himself got scared of the splashing sounds made by the fish.

While the fish kept splashing around in the water, the tiny frog sat near the middle of the cypress log and continued wishing for a net, a dish, and about cooking those fish on a griddle. Eventually, the frog realised that since he had no means of catching the fish or cooking them, all he could do was jump off from the log. He thought about jumping so high that it almost seemed like he was flying.

As the little green frog leapt from the log, his mind was filled with fear that he would fall into the pond with a loud crash. Meanwhile, the rainbow fish continued swimming in the pond, splashing the water around. They were not bothered by the frog, who could not do anything to make them leave. In the little green frog poem, the frog could only wish for ways to catch and cook the fish. He finally jumped off the log he was sitting on to escape the fish.
