The Barber Song for Kids

The barbers nursery rhyme is definitely one of the best songs for children. This is a nursery rhyme that was written to help children learn how to pronounce the words. The song, as a whole, doesn’t make much sense. But it does have a catchy melody, and hence it is a hit amongst children. They will have a lot of fun reading the rhyme and dancing to the tune.

Barber Barber shave a pig

How many hairs will make a wig?

Four and twenty that's enough

Then pat the pig with the powder puff.

Meaning of the Barber Song

In the barber song and nursery rhyme, someone asks the barber to cut the hair of the pig. It is a very unusual request because pigs don’t have much hair. Now, why does the person ask the barber to shave the pig? Well, it is because they are going to make a wig out of the pig's hair. The person asks the barber how much hair it will take in order to create a wig.

The barber then replies that it will take about twenty-four hairs to make a perfect wig. This line doesn’t make much sense because the pig lacks hair. Thus, it is a silly song that the children will enjoy. They will learn how to pronounce different words easily.

Why Learn the Barber Nursery Rhyme?

This is a nursery rhyme for kids that tells us about the role of a barber. When you go to a hair salon, the barber will make you sit in a chair and cut your hair according to the style that you want. Then he will puff the powder on your forehead and neck to ensure that the small pieces of hair don’t bother you.

The job of a barber is a very important one, and children need to understand why it is important to cut their hair. The poem also introduces the children to the term ‘wig’. The wig is fake hair that people with no hair or hair issues tend to wear.

Did You Know?

Wigs or false hair are actually worn from ancient times. The people from ancient Egypt used to wear wigs so that their bald heads could be protected from the sun. Another interesting thing about wigs is that Mozart, one of the most renowned classical music composers, wore a wig to cover up his left ear. Wigs come in all shapes and sizes. But they are not made up of pig hair. Many different materials go into the making of wigs.
