ICSE Class 10 Spanish Syllabus for Semester (1 & 2) 2024-25

ICSE has developed the exam pattern as per the requirements of the students. It is developed to help the students in understanding what the questions are, how to solve the questions, how to answer the difficult quests, learn their strengths and weaknesses, and much more to develop their mental ability.

The exam pattern will help the students in understanding the Spanish language in detail as the students would try to translate the sentences from one language to another language which will promote the application of logical thinking. It provides the students an exposure to learning. Also, the Spanish grammar in the syllabus will help the students to improve their base for knowledge and will increase the chances of developing error-free reading and writing skills. The ICSE exam pattern will, in turn, assist the students in writing complex sentences easily, efficiently practicing tenses, and learning the concepts of the Spanish language which they can later apply in use.

Spanish is a grammatically inflected language. Students should practice authoritative texts using audio texts from all Spanish-speaking countries with proper exercises. The ICSE Class 10 Spanish syllabus consists of syntax, vocabulary, idiom, and sentence formation in Spanish. Students will also learn about nouns, articles, adjectives, adverbs, and pronouns. The students will be prepared to learn and understand the spoken language's basic structures and formulate short Spanish compositions, comprehension, and Dialogue writings. Assessment  Pattern of ICSE for Spanish:

The assessment pattern followed at ICSE has been described as follows, it will help the student in acknowledging the various aspects of evaluation and how to prepare themselves for the exams conducted for testing the three language skills.

a) Listening Skills:

The students have narrated a passage of about 300 words which is read aloud by the examiner twice at the normal reading speed. Candidates can try making brief notes during the readings. Then they can answer an objective-type test based on the passage, on a paper provided. 

b) Speaking Skills:

The students are required to make an oral presentation for about two minutes, which is followed by a discussion on the subject with the examiners, for about a time of three minutes. The subjects for presentation can include narrating their experience, providing a description, giving directions, expressing their opinion, giving a report, relating an anecdote, or commenting on a current event. The student can refer to brief notes during travelers the presentation but reading or excessive dependence on notes is penalized. It is recommended that the candidates should be given an hour for preparation of their subject before the final presentation and that they are given a choice of subject. 

c) Creative Writing Skills:

The students are required to write short compositions based on the suggested assignments in the Spanish language.

The assessment will be conducted jointly by the Spanish subject teacher and the external examiner from some other school who will assess the students based on their performance. The External Examiner can be nominated by the Head of the School or Principal who could be from the faculty but not teaching the language in the class.

Marks Distribution:

The Internal Examiner is required to award a maximum of 10 marks and the external examiner has the liberty of 10 marks to offer. The total marks are 20 out of which listening skills have 5 marks assigned, Speaking Skills have 5 marks assigned, and Creative Writing has 10 marks assigned which are sent to the ICSE Council by the Head of the School or the Principal.
