ICSE Class 10 History and Civics Syllabus For Semester (1 & 2) 2024-25

In the History and Civics syllabus for Class 10, all the chapters are equally important. The syllabus is divided into two parts. The History and Civics syllabus for Class 10 ICSE theory segment presents the following chapters -

1. The Union Legislature, The Union Executive, The Judiciary, The Indian National Movement (1857 – 1917), Mass Phase of the National Movement (1915-1947), and The Contemporary World. In the chapters, the students will learn about the following topics - 

• Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha composition, term, membership qualifications.

• Parliamentary procedures and Speaker – election, and functions.

• Powers and functions of Union Parliament and exclusive powers of the two Houses.

• The President’s qualifications for election, office term, impeachment procedure.

• Executive, financial, legislative, judicial, discretionary, and emergency powers.

• Council of Ministers and Prime Minister’s appointment, formation, tenure, functions – policy-making, legislative, administrative, financial, emergency.

• Powers and Position of the Prime Minister.

• The Supreme court judges qualification, composition, appointment, Original, Advisory, Appellate, Revisory, Judicial Review, and Court of Record.

• Enforcement of Fundamental Rights and Writs.

2. The First War of Independence, Foundation of the Indian National Congress, Immediate objectives of the Indian National Congress, First Phase of the Indian National Movement (1885-1907), and the Second Phase of the Indian National Movement (1905-1916). Non-Cooperation Movement, the Civil Disobedience Movement, Dandi March and its impact of the Movement, the Quit India Movement, Quit India Resolution, the significance of the Movement and Independence and Partition of India.

Students will also learn about the First World War, Second World War, United Nations, and the objectives of the U.N. UNICEF, WHO, and UNESCO functions, Non-Aligned Movement, and Names of the architects of NAM. Students can understand more about the topics by going through reference books or sample papers. This will help them to achieve a better study plan and score well in the exam.

Class 10th History and Civics Syllabus - Weightage Marks 

The History and Civics syllabus for Class 10 ICSE allows students to prepare for the exam in an organized manner. It will benefit the students in planning a proper study method. The History and Civics syllabus for Class 10 consists of one paper of two hours duration carrying 80 marks in external and 20 marks in Internal Assessment. The paper consists of two parts. Part I is of 30 marks and contains short answer questions set from the entire syllabus. Part II is of 50 marks and consists of two sections, A and B respectively. Students must answer two out of three questions in section A and 3 out of five questions in Section B.
