ICSE Class 10 Geography Question Paper

Geography features as an interesting subject in the school curriculum. Being a subject related to exploring and understanding space and place, it helps in recognising the great differences in cultures, political systems, economies, landscapes and environments across the world thus acting as a link between them. It might not be a very difficult subject to study, but the multifaceted syllabus of this subject includes World Maps, Topography and Local Mapping, Geology and Geomorphology, Climate and Weather, distribution of Natural Resources and manufacturing facilities. For the students of Std 10, this subject is an extremely scoring paper in the Board Exams once the student is able to master the maps or names of locations, rivers, crops, winds, etc. Beyond the Board exams, Geography holds special importance in competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, etc., as a whole paper is dedicated to it and as an optional subject as well.  Again, it is a tedious task to remember the minutest of details without getting confused. Because it acts as a link between various other subjects like economics, political science, environment, etc., it helps students to think more intelligently about complicated and unresolved issues like global warming, international population movements, food scarcity and security, disaster management, etc. As an inclusive subject, it is difficult to place it as a natural or a social science.

The ICSE Board Exam specimen papers are useful to understand the pattern as per the latest syllabus available on the official website of Vedantu. The ICSE Class 10 Geography question paper 2020 is of two hours and includes a Survey map of India to mark the topography, a map of India (outline) to mark the landscapes and a set of objective questions. The pattern of the paper is as follows:

  1. All questions of Part I of the Geography Paper are compulsory. It includes an extract of the Survey map (Question 1). Question 2 comprises the outline map of India in which all questions are compulsory.

  2. Out of 9 questions in Part II of the paper, any five questions are to be attempted.

  3. Both the maps need to be either attached to the answer sheet or to be directly handed over to the Examiner.
