FAQs on ICSE Class 10 Biology Revision Notes Chapter 4 - Absorption by Roots

1. What is Absorption by roots?

Active absorption refers to the absorption of water by the roots with the help of adenosine triphosphate, generated by the root respiration: as the root cells actively take part in the process, it is called active absorption. These Absorption by Roots solutions are available for download in the pdf format and will offer answers to all the questions provided in Class 10 Biology Chapter 4, on Vedantu’s website for free download by the students and help in effective preparation for the exam.

2. How do plants absorb water from the soil?

The Process Can Be Understood as Follows:

  • Plants absorb water with the help of roots from the soil. It also absorbs minerals in organic form through root hairs then the water and minerals get transported by xylem vessels.

  • The carbon dioxide (CO2) is taken from the atmosphere along with water and produces organic food now this food is transported through phloem and is called translocation.

  • Here Osmosis plays a major role in the absorption of water and minerals by the root hair.

  • When plants tend to lose water in the form of water vapor, evaporation of water molecules creates a suction pull as transpiration causes a vacuum in the uppermost layer of the plant or aerial leaves.

  • The intermediate cells tend to lose water as a low concentration is created in the topmost layer. So, this process of osmosis continues and the suction pressure pulls the water in the xylem upwards creating a water column.

  • Another pressure known as root pressure is also important as it is exerted by the root due to its metabolic activities. It can move water through the xylem at night when transpiration is negligible and it can push the water in herbs to a certain distance/height.

3. How to prepare for the ICSE Class 10 Biology?

To Prepare Well For The Icse Class 10 Biology Examination The Students Can Do The Following:

  • Prepare notes from the important concepts and topics to revise them as and when required.

  • Make sticky notes to prepare by applying them at laces easily visible during other activities and store them on the long-term memory of the brain.

  • Keep practicing the sample papers to get exposure to the maximum number of questions.

  • Learn to deep dive into concepts by searching for them over the internet as it will help in answering the objective-type questions.

4. How can I score 100 in ICSE Class 10 Biology?
