Introduction To Jungle King Story

The Jungle king is a Jungle Story for Kids, it is a very well-loved and well-known bedtime story among children. It is a story written by Zahra Juzer Gandhi and won the third prize in the sub-junior category of the first biannual Short Story Contest held in 2016.

Summary of the Jungle King Story

Once upon a time, there was a jungle, and the lion, the king of the jungle ruling over the other animals, suddenly died. All the animals mourned over the death, but as a few days passed, a new emotion took over. Everything in the jungle was a mess since there was no one to look over the daily activities of the several animals. Seeing this the animals decided to assemble together and choose the new ruler.

The question now arises, who should be the next king? After several hours of discussion, the animals concluded that an election would be held to choose the next king. Those who were interested would be given some tasks to complete in a month, and then after the month was over, everyone would vote for the animal who completed its work fastest and most efficiently.

On this, several candidates came forward, some of them being Sonu the fox, who was then assigned the job of clearing the dust from the forest, Bablu the monkey was given the task of clearing the spider webs from the trees, Candy the rabbit was asked to clear the grass around the trees and lastly Kanu the elephant was assigned the task of filling the holes in the ground with stones.

All the candidates diligently got to work, and a month passed by. At the end of the month, all the animals gathered once again to see the progress of the tasks assigned. On evaluation, it was discovered that the three animal candidates, including Candy, Sonu and Bablu, had rightfully completed their assigned task. In contrast, Kanu the elephant had failed to do so and had resigned quite early from his task.

After learning this, all the animals got ready to vote. Once the voting ended, the animals again counted the votes. As the votes were counted, the results revealed Kanu the elephant received the highest number of votes and thus had won the election. Discovering the results, most of the animals were surprised since Kanu hadn’t even completed the given task. Upon questioning, the eagle answered. It explained why Kanu had given up on the election and resolved not to complete his task; it was because, in those holes which he was supposed to fill, there were eggs of birds; Kanu had chosen to save the eggs over winning the election. Seeing this, all the birds voted for Kanu, making him win the election.

Listening to this, all the animals agreed to make Kanu the next king, which is how Many became the new Jungle king.

Moral of the Story

Through the story we read today, we learn that no act of kindness is small; that is, no matter how small the act may be, any kind act may positively impact both ours and the people around us. Thus, we should always be kind and considerate of others around us.

The story also teaches us how what we give comes back to us. Since the elephant was considerate of the bird’s eggs putting aside his greed of becoming the king, and when the time came, the birds chose him as the king, and he ended up becoming the ruler.
