A Tale of Two Birds Story in English for Kids

There was a mother bird who had a nest in the tallest branch of a tree. The shade from the tree provided a safe space for the mother to build the nest. The mother bird had two litter birds as children. She did everything to make sure that her children were well-fed and looked after. She loved her little children very much and took care of them day and night. But one day, their world was upturned due to a heavy storm. It started raining and lightning struck with a loud bang. The noise of the thunder scared the little birds but their mother tried shielding them from the storm. Alas, a branch from the tree cracked and hit the next, killing the mother bird.

The Baby Birds Are Saved

Fortunately for the little birds, the strong wind blew the nest far away. Due to the strong wind, the nest was blown and the birds got separated. One of the birds flew right into a cave where some robbers were hiding. The other bird went to an Ashram where a Rishi lived.

Some time passed and the birds grew older. Not long after that, a king came to the forest on a hunt. However, he got lost on his way and took shelter near the cave. Suddenly, he heard a voice that said, “Quick, there is someone beneath the tree. Take all his jewels and money or else he will run away.”

The king looked up to see a big bird sitting atop the branches of the tree. He was astonished to see the bird saying such strange things. The king got alert when he heard some rustling sounds by the cave. Wanting to save himself, he quickly got on his horse and ran away.

The King Reaches the Ashram

After riding for a long time, the king reached the Ashram. He tied his horse nearby and took shelter under the shade of the ashram. Again, he heard a similar voice say, “Welcome to the ashram, sir. You must be very tired. Please come inside and rest. The rishi is not at home. Please make yourself comfortable until he comes back.” The king looked around and saw a similar-looking bird. When he asked the bird about it, the bird said, “He is my brother. Unfortunately, he is always with a gang of robbers and that is why he speaks like that.”

The King Understands the Story

After some time, the rishi came back and the king told him everything. The Rishi explained, “We are known for the company that we keep. The other bird always stayed with the robbers and picked up their behaviour. But his bird stayed with me and hence learned the importance of humility and helping others.” The king finally understood that we should always keep good company because they often tend to have an effect on our behaviour.
