It is a straight mirror which forms its image by extending the reflected rays which are incident on the mirror and passing them through the mirror on the other side of the mirror and forming the image by joining the extended lines.

There are three types of mirrors, namely convex mirror, concave mirror and plane mirror. All of these three mirrors have a silvered surface and a smooth surface. Plane mirror is a straight mirror with a silvered surface in its back. In a plane mirror, from the object, two rays are passing towards the mirror.
One ray is parallel to the principal axis, hits the mirror and reflects back. Another ray passes towards the pole and gets reflected from the pole. These two rays are extended back on the other side, where these two rays meet. The place where these two rays meet, it’s there that the image forms.
The characteristics of this image that forms are as follows:
-The image formed is virtual and erect.
-The image is of the exact same size as the object.
-The distance of the image from the pole is equal to the distance of the object from the pole, but it is formed on the opposite side of the mirror.
Note:Concave mirror is the only mirror which produces a real and inverted image, while both convex and plane mirror produce an image that is virtual and erect. The difference between the images formed by convex mirror and plane mirror is the size of the image, plane mirror at all distances of the object produces an image of the same size.
