HintIndia is geographically divided into 29 states and 7 Union Territories. Delhi is the National Capital of India. Out of these 7 union territories, two island groups of India are also included which are known as Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Lakshadweep islands are situated in the Arabian sea. The island is located off the coast of Kerala. This island group of India has a coral origin. These are coral islands located off the coast of God’s own country Kerala. They are referred to as a kind of coral reefs that are known as Atolls which are circular or horseshoe-shaped reefs.
Few features of the Lakshadweep are:
A. Lakshadweep is the second smallest populated place in the country.
B. Lakshadweep is also India’s smallest Union Territory. (Indian has 29 states and 7 union territories. Union territory is not an independent unit but is run by the administrators appointed by the President of the country).
C. The Kavaratti is the capital of Lakshadweep.
2. Andaman and Nicobar Island
The Andaman and the Nicobar Islands lie to the southeast of the Indian mainland in the Bay of Bengal. Andaman and Nicobar have their own different and royal cultures. This island has a large number of beaches. Thus, tourists are attracted to the same.
Few features of the Andaman Nicobar Islands are:
A. Port Blair is the capital of the Andaman Nicobar Islands.
B. This island is known well for the popular cellular jail.
C. Most common religion practiced is Hinduism followed by Christianity and Islam.
NoteIndira Point In Andaman -The southernmost part of India is known as the Indira Point which is located on the island of Andaman and Nicobar. It is a village on the island and the appropriate location of this point is in the beautiful Nicobar Tehsil. The place was named as Indira point after the Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi. The point was earlier known as the Pygmalion Point and Parsons Point. The announcement was made by the local Member of Parliament when Indira Gandhi visited the local lighthouse on 19 February 1984. The official renaming ceremony happened on 10 October 1985. On April 30, 1972, the lighthouse of Indira point was commenced. The village comes under the jurisdiction of Laxmi Nagar panchayat. The area is protected by the Indian Coast Guard.
