Phosphate ions and other minerals are released from rocks over time by weathering and precipitation. Then, the inorganic phosphate is dispersed in the soil and water. Inorganic phosphate from the soil is absorbed by plants. The phosphorus cycle is significant because phosphorus is a crucial ingredient for supporting life on Earth. It also plays a crucial role in the structure of genetic material, the function of cell membranes, and the development of bones and teeth.
