Hint:With a long coastline of $7516.6$ Km, India has over 13 major and 200 notified non-majors (minor/intermediate) ports. $95\% $ of India’s foreign trade is handled by these major ports.
Complete answer: There are many seaports in our country which increase India’s foreign trade and thereby contribute to India’s economic growth. Mumbai is the biggest port. With a view to decongest the Mumbai port and serve as a harbor port for this region, the Jawaharlal Nehru port was planned. Mormugao Port, which is in Goa, accounts for about fifty percent of India’s iron ore exports, and thus it is the premier iron ore exporting port of the country. The export of iron ore concentrates from Kudremukh mines is catered by New Mangalore port, located in Karnataka. The extreme southwestern port is in Kochi. Then comes the extreme south eastern port of Tuticorin. Chennai is one of the oldest artificial ports of the country; it is ranked next to Mumbai in terms of volume of trade and cargo. To ease the volume of trade on the Mumbai port, Kandla in Kachchh was developed soon after independence, in the wake of the loss of Karachi port which went to Pakistan after the partition. Kandla is a tidal port which caters to the convenient handling of exports and imports of highly productive granary and industrial belt stretching across the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Gujarat.
Thus, option (A) is correct.
Note: There are many other ports too in India, some of them are Vishakapatnam; which is the deepest landlocked and well-protected port, Paradip port, Kolkata is an inland riverine port and Haldia port.
