B.R Ambedkar belonged to the Mahar community which was regarded as the community of untouchables in pre-independent India. He studied at a government school along with other children from the lower castes, who were often given little or no attention by the school teachers. After getting a degree in Economics and political science from the University of Bombay in \[1912\], Ambedkar got employed with the government in the state of Baroda. The government also gave him an opportunity to complete his MA at the University of Columbia. It was due to the treatment given to untouchables, that Ambedkar started taking interest in politics and demanded separate electoral and reservations for the untouchables.
Dr. Ambedkar wanted a society that gives equal rights, opportunities, and respect to the economically weak and depressed section in India.
He drafted the fundamental rights in the constitution according to which any person regardless of his caste, creed, color, and gender can seek judicial remedy in case any of the rights are violated.

Note: He played an institutional role in providing reservations in jobs, schools, and civil services for the scheduled caste and scheduled tribes.
