Hint: Heart is the main circulatory organ of the body. The deoxygenated blood from the body goes to the heart for oxygenation. Then the oxygenated blood is circulated to all parts of the body.
Complete step by step answer:
Human heart is a muscular organ made up of cardiac muscles. It is situated between the two lungs. It is well protected by a membrane called the pericardium.
Four chambers of heart- The left and right atrium (upper chamber) and the left and right ventricles (lower chamber). The right side of the heart deals with the deoxygenated blood whereas the left side deals with the oxygenated blood. In between the left ventricle and atrium, two cusp valve is present called the mitral valve and in between right atrium and ventricle, three cusp tricuspid valve is present which prevents the backflow of the blood.
Superior Vena cava- It brings deoxygenated blood from the upper part of the body to heart for oxygenation.
Inferior Vena cava- It brings deoxygenated blood from the lower part of the body to heart for oxygenation.
Pulmonary artery- It carries deoxygenated blood from right ventricles to the lungs for oxygenation. It is the only artery which carries deoxygenated blood.
At the lungs the oxygenation of the blood takes place.
Pulmonary vein- It carries oxygenated blood from lungs to the heart. It is the only vein which carries oxygenated blood.
Aorta- is the main artery that carries oxygenated blood away from the heart to the entire body. It is guarded by aortic valves.
The movement of blood is controlled by the contraction and relaxation of the cardiac muscles in the chambers of the heart.
In the diagram below, the blue colour shows the path of deoxygenated blood in the body whereas red colour indicates the path of oxygenated blood.
Additional Information- Other arteries which carries oxygenated blood are hepatic artery, renal artery, systemic artery.
Note: Heart is the main pumping organ of the body. Pumping action is regulated by the rhythmic contraction and relaxation of the cardiac muscles. The main artery for transporting deoxygenated blood is Aorta. It is the largest artery which supplies oxygenated blood to all the parts of the body.
