Hint: The given question is about the concept of leap year. A leap year is a year which has a total of 366 days in it as compared to a non-leap year which has a total of 365 days. The extra day of a leap year is included in the month of February.

Complete step by step answer: As it is a known fact that leap year is repeated after every 4 years. However, to find out if a year will be a leap year or a non-leap year there are some rules laid out that we must keep in mind. The rules are given below.
If a year is evenly divisible by 4 but not evenly divisible by 100 then it is a leap year. If a year is not divisible by 4 then it is not a leap year.
If a year is evenly divisible by 4 as well as 100 then it may or may not be a leap year. To confirm if such a year is leap year or not follow rule 3.
If a year is evenly divisible by 100 and also by 400 then such a year is a leap year whereas if a year is divisible by 100 but not divisible by 400 then such a year is not a leap year.
As the given year 2020 is evenly divisible by 4, i.e. $\dfrac{{2020}}{4} = 505$ and also it is not evenly divisible by 100, i.e. $\dfrac{{2020}}{4} = 505$. Hence, according to rule 1 the year 2020 is a leap year.

Note: Let us understand ‘why a leap year occurs?’. A normal year is 365.24 days because it takes 365.24 days for the earth to complete one revolution around the sun. However, for practical purposes we say that a normal year has 365 days and the remaining 0.24 day after 4 years contributes an extra day for the leap year.
