Hint: The city in which the battle had been fought still exists and it is commonly assumed that the current name of the city is a literal translation of “Frontier of Hind” in Urdu. The Mughals considered this place as the ‘Gateway to Hindustan’. It might have also derived its name from a fifth century AD Aryans tribe, which occupied this zone.
Complete answer:
In 1555, between the Mughal empire and the Suri empire, the Battle of Sirhind was fought. After the passing of Islam Shah Suri, the Suri Empire was in a civil war where different competitors to the seat battled each other for matchless quality. Sikandar Shah Suri was busy with his battle against Ibrahim Shah Suri when Humayun mobilised a military from Kabul.
Humayun captured Rohtas Fort and Lahore in February 1555. Another unit of his powers caught Dipalpur and Jalandhar. Another division continued towards Sirhind. Sikandar sent a force of 30,000 to catch them however they were crushed by the Mughal armed force in the Battle of Machhiwara and Sirhind was occupied by the Mughals.
Sikandar drove an army of 80,000 and met the Mughals at Sirhind. On June 22nd, 1555, they met in a fight. Humayun and Bairam Khan completed a courageous attack in a rainstorm as Sher Shah Suri had done at the Battle of Chausa to crush Humayun. Sikandar was vanquished by the Mughal armed force and was constrained to withdraw to the Shivalik Hills in northern Punjab. The triumphant Mughals walked to Delhi and involved it and restored their domain in India.
Hence, the correct answer is option C.
Note:
After 15 years in exile from India, Humayun had come to reclaim the territories in India which were once conquered by his father, Babur. Humayun emerged victorious, and his armies went on to reoccupy Babur’s former capital, Delhi, and re-establish the Mughal Empire in India.
