Hint: The larynx is an organ located in the anterior part of the neck. It is a part of the respiratory tract. The laryngeal muscles move the parts of the larynx which is responsible for phonation and breathing. The larynx gets both motor and sensory innervation through the branches of the vagus nerve.

The structure of the larynx is cartilaginous and it is held together by ligaments and membranes. The internal cavity can be divided into three parts:
Supraglottis – it extends from the inferior surface of epiglottis to the vestibular fold, also known as false vocal cords.
Glottis – it contains the vocal cords. The opening between the vocal cords is known as the rima glottidis. The size of this opening is altered by the muscles of phonation.
Sub glottis – it extends from the inferior border of the glottis to the inferior border of the cricoid cartilage.

Ciliated cells lining the respiratory tracts help in preventing mucus from clogging the tubes and also helps to clear other particles and microorganisms.
