Hint:In India, the oil fields were discovered in 1867 in a remote area in upper Assam called Digboi. A group of civil engineers accidentally came across oil while supervising the laying of rail tracks for Assam railways. They found oil seeping out of the earth in the middle of a dense jungle in the North-eastern state.

Complete answer:
Soon after the discovery of oil fields in Digboi, the first oil refinery was established by the Assam oil company ltd in 1901 in Digboi. Since then Digboi has been regarded as the birthplace of the oil industry in India and is thus known as the oil city of India. It is famous because of two reasons, first, it is an active 100-year-old oilfield and second it is the world's oldest operating oil refinery.

World’s first oil field was drilled in Titusville, Pennsylvania, United States. Edwin L Drake was commissioned to locate oil in a salt quarry. On August 27th, 1859 oil was tapped at its source at a depth of sixty-nine feet using a drill. Since its discovery, the black gold as natural or crude oil was then known, has undergone numerous processes of refining.

Hence, the correct answer is option (A).

Note:Assam oil company ltd has now become a division of Indian Oil Corporation since 1981. The refining capacity of Digboi refinery is about 0.65 million tonnes per year. The crude oil yield per annum in Digboi oil fields is not high. Natural Oil is important to the human kind as it is a source of energy, light, transportation and many more things.
