Sabha was established to improve and promote the study of Hindi literacy especially among the Non-Hindi speaking people of South India. The headquarters of Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha is established at Thanikachalam Road, T. Nagar, Chennai. The Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha at Madras to propagate the study of Hindi in Madras Presidency and many princely states. The first Hindi class at Sabha was taken by Devdas Gandhi, he is Gandhi's son. The number of students gradually increased from 80 in 1919 to hundreds of thousands of students in subsequent years.
