Hint: Ever wondered how we can be so assured when we purchase an iron from some shop, that it is a good product and it is going to work without any issues? It is the ISI that is concerned with providing certification for selling industrial products.

Complete solution:
ISI stands for Indian Standards Institute. It is also known by the name of Bureau of Indian Standard, after its renaming on 1 January 1987. ISI or BIS is responsible for certifying industrial appliances before these are released in the market so that the customers can be assured of their quality and the manufacturers also perform their duties well.

It is the national standards body of India. It is mandatory for the industries to obtain the ISI mark in order to sell their produce like electrical appliances, LPG products, kitchen appliances, etc. You will be surprised to find that there are 90 industrial items that are legally required to obtain a mandatory 7-digit licence number and the IS number on top of the ISI mark which signifies the Indian standard a particular product is in compliance with. This is the reason we need to check the ISI mark before making any such purchases.

Note: For food safety, FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is responsible. The FSSAI gives us an assurance of the quality of the packed food material
