Hint: Here in the question they are asking to name the phylum of tapeworm. So basically, phylum means that part of the level of the classification or taxonomic rank that is below Kingdom and above class. Earlier, division word was used instead of the word phylum. A classification hierarchy is present to classify the organisms.
Complete answer:
Tapeworms are ribbon-like worms and they are long with a segmented body. They live as parasites inside the intestine of many animals. Their body is divided into three major parts that are the head, neck and chain of segments called proglottids.
They come under the subclass Eucestoda and class Cestoda. They belong to the phylum Platyhelminthes.
All tapeworms have both male and female reproductive organs and hence they are known as hermaphrodites. The head region of a tapeworm is known as scolex. The proglottids which are present are basically a container that has eggs which are shed into the environment in order to infect other organisms.
It has the ability to attach itself with the intestine of the host with the help of scolex. As they have no mouth, they absorb the nutrients from the gut of the host.
So, tapeworm belongs to phylum / of Flatworms.
Note:
Humans can easily get infected with tapeworms if they eat meat, fish, pork etc. which is not cooked properly or even if they live in poor hygienic conditions. There are different species of tapeworms and they all have different numbers of proglottids. Take an example of Taenia solium, it has around 1000 proglottids.
