Hint- The testicles that are additionally called gonads are two oval-shaped organs in the male regenerative framework (reproductive system). The testicles are contained in a sac of skin termed as the scrotum. The scrotum hangs outside the body in the front of the pelvic area close to the upper thighs in the case of human beings.

Complete Answer-Testis or gonads are sperm-creating organs, present as two in number. It helps in keeping up the soundness of the male reproductive system. Underneath are the functions performed by the testicles in the case of human beings-
• Testicles produce sperms. These are produced in the seminiferous tubules of the testis. Sperms contain a haploid arrangement of chromosomes of the male parent. These sperms further undergo the process of spermatogenesis.
• Testicles produce a hormone known as testosterone. This hormone is significant in making the auxiliary sexual characters in young men. Testosterone is answerable for the development of male private parts and sperm creation.
• Leydig cells are located between seminiferous tubules and they secrete other androgens that are important for sexual development such as the development of secondary sexual characters (facial hairs, sexual behavior), etc.
Additional information-
Sometimes the testis does not descend into the scrotum of an infant and the condition is called cryptorchidism or commonly as undescended testicles but sometimes one or both of the testis is absent in a person and the condition is called anorchia.

Note- The testis is two in number, contained within the scrotum, and is a crucial part of the male reproductive system. These are homologous to the female ovary. They perform a variety of functions in males. Proper functioning of testes helps to keep a check on the state of the male reproductive system.
