Hint: To solve this type of linear equation we will take variable terms to one side and constants to the other side then we will apply different mathematical operations to get the required solution.

Complete answer:
Given that the equation is $3x + 12 = 0$ and then we need to find the value of the unknown variable $x$ , so we will make use of the basic mathematical operations to simplify further.
Now Turing the variables on the left-hand side and also the numbers on the right-hand side we get $3x + 12 = 0 \Rightarrow 3x = - 12$ while changing the values on the equals to, the sign of the values or the numbers will change. Or we can also subtract the number $12$ then we get $3x + 12 = 0 \Rightarrow 3x + 12 - 12 = - 12 \Rightarrow 3x = - 12$ using the addition and subtraction operation equal values with opposite signs gets cancel each other or the values are zero only.
Thus, by the division operation, we have $3x = - 12 \Rightarrow x = \dfrac{{ - 12}}{3}$ and thus we get $x = \dfrac{{ - 12}}{3} = 3\left| \!{\overline {\,
 { - 12} \,}} \right. = - 4$ by the division and multiplication table three.
Hence, we get the unknown value as $x = - 4$

Note:
There are three methods to solve linear equations in one variable.
1. Trial and Error.
2. Inverse operations.
3. Transposition Method.
