Hint:Border roads are Strategically important roads in the bordering areas of the country. The Border Roads Organisation or BRO is an organization of the Indian army corps of engineers that handle the operations of developing and maintaining road networks in India's border areas and friendly neighboring countries.

Complete Answer:The BRO was formed to secure India's borders and develop infrastructure in remote areas of the north and north-east states of the country in 1960. The significance of Border roads is that they are important roads as they improve accessibility in areas of difficult terrain. These roads have also helped in the economic development of border areas. BRO is also entrusted to construct Bridges, Tunnels, Causeways, Helipads, and Airfields. The BRO takes projects in India and friendly countries. They have been developing roads, airfields, and bridges in hostile environments which are shunned by private enterprises, due to security concerns related to hostilities, or because of environmental challenges. The India-China border roads project is also undertaken by the BRO and other organizations which plan to build 105 strategic border roads along the Sino-Indian border. Road bridges are also constructed to provide multiple points of alternative connectivity to the forces. Sometimes these roads have to be constructed in areas of difficult terrain and take up a lot of time to construct.

Note:The border roads are constructed in the remote areas of the country to provide connectivity. The BRO has constructed 43,567 km of border roads in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Meghalaya, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
