Santosh Yadav was born on the 10th of October, 1967 in Haryana. She was born as the sixth child into the family with five sons in a village named Joniyawas, in the district of Rewari, Haryana. Although she was born in a society where the birth of a son was considered an auspicious occasion and that of a daughter as a bad omen and a burden, she proved everyone wrong with her strong will and unshakable resolve.

She was always dissatisfied with the traditional life she was forced to live in as a woman and always wanted to be free. She fought against the traditionalism she was forced to follow and stood up for her rights. At the age of 25, in the year 1992, Santosh became the youngest Indian woman to climb Mount Everest. Not just that, Santosh was also very concerned about the environment. She was an avid environmentalist and always thought of the impact of us humans on the beautiful Himalayas.

Her concern for the environmental impact of pollution can be seen clearly from the fact that she went on a cleaning the Himalayas all by herself. She managed to clean the Himalayas by bringing down almost five hundred kilograms of garbage left by different trekking expeditions unaidedly.
