Intrauterine devices: Intrauterine devices are also called as the intrauterine contraceptive devices or coils. These are the small and T-shaped devices that are used to control birth. These devices are inserted in the uterus of a female in order to prevent pregnancy.
- Intrauterine devices are the long acting reversible birth control measures. Intrauterine devices are more effective and safer than other contraceptive methods.

(II) Hormonal intrauterine devices – that release a small amount of hormones. Example – Progesterone releasing intrauterine devices.
Hormone releasing intrauterine devices:
- Hormone releasing intrauterine devices are also referred to as intrauterine systems in the UK.
- These intrauterine devices work by releasing a small amount of hormone levonorgestrel which is a progestin.
- A medical researcher at the university of Helsinki, Jouri Valter Tapani introduced the first hormone releasing intrauterine device in 1976.
- This device is used for birth control, heavy menstrual flow, etc. This device is placed in the uterus of the females and it lasts three to seven years.
- The effect of this can be reversed means fertility returns quickly after removing this device from the uterus of a female. Examples – Progestasert, LNG-20 (Mirena) .
So, it has been clear from the above discussion that the hormone releasing intrauterine devices and Progestasert and LNG – 20.
Hence, option B is the correct answer for this question.
