Sant Gadgebaba was born on 23rd February 1876 and died in the year 1956 on 20th December. He was born in a small village of Maharashtra. He spent his childhood in extreme poverty and illiteracy. He used to live in the village where people had no idea about what knowledge is and neither were they willing to learn anything new. Even in this situation he never loses hope and asks people to maintain personal hygiene, cleanliness of the village by himself cleaning the areas. He always carried his broom-stick with him and used to clear the gutters and the roads whenever he found them dirty. He started many other movements for the welfare of society and the safeguards of the animals. He appealed to people to not to sacrifice the animals for the sake of their religious beliefs. He encouraged people from around the world by teaching them the path of selfless care, love and kindness towards people of every caste. He for following the path of simple living and hard-work left his own family. He used to organise Kirtans for the people where he taught about humanity and tried to guide people to not to get distracted by any misbeliefs. During his whole life, he formed many Gorakshan centres, many Dharamshalas and the food distributing centres for the handicapped and the poor peoples. He followed Saint Tukaram Maharaj and considered him as his Guru throughout his life.

The actual name of Sant Gadgebaba was Debuji Zhingraji Janorkar. Debuji was highly affected by the work of Dr Bheem Rao Ambedkar because he was doing the social work through the politics which Sant Gadgebaba was doing through his Kirtans. The Maharashtra Government started the Swachata Abhiyaan doe villages in the year 2000 on the name of Sant Gadgebaba to honour him.
