Hint: Global-warming is the long term heating of the Earth’s climate. It is the gradual heating of Earth’s surface, oceans and atmosphere. The cause of global warming is the increasing concentration of greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere which is primarily due to human activities.
Complete step by step answer:
Let us now look into the points that can be accommodated in your speech concerning global-warming:
Over the past 50 years, the average global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history. And the trend is accelerating. After the year 2000, we have witnessed the hottest 16 years in the past 134 years. And this is scary!!
Cause of global warming: it occurs when the level of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases which are responsible for heat-trapping gets collected in the atmosphere and absorbs solar radiation that has bounced back from earth’s surface.
Ideally, these radiations must have escaped to space but due to the presence of these gases, it gets trapped and makes earth hotter.
The level of greenhouse gases is increasing primarily due to human activities: burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, industrialisation and some natural factors such as volcanic eruptions, forest fire etc.
Some of the examples of greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane, chlorofluorocarbons, ozone, nitrogen dioxide and water vapours.
Some of the consequences of global warming are: melting of glaciers which increase the ocean water level, severe droughts, increased chances of the forest fire, disruptions of the natural habitat of flora and fauna etc.
Note:Some of the recent developments
Climate change has recently gained a boast and countries are now paying more attention to it and trying to find a balance between environmental conservation and economic development.
India is also aiming to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and reducing its carbon footprints.
A scientist is trying to find a new and alternative approach to fossil fuels and encouraging green technology.
Recently ‘Friday for future’ has been in the news, during which people are trying to get the attention of the legislature to the climate change and its consequences.
