Our government has legalised the age of marriage for a girl is 18 and for boys is 21. This act was put forth in 1950 but got approval in 1978. One of the major reason to pass this act is to stop child marriage. The demerits of child marriage are child gives birth to a child at that time female was not emotionally or mentally fit that they can handle responsibility after marriage couple was unable to continue his studies, early marriage lead to deformities in both mother and foetus, mortality rate increase, increase chances of sexually transmitted disease, female become weak and prone to disease. Because of all that marriage at a certain age is necessary and child marriage should be prohibited.

Major goals of this programme are reproductive health, child health and family regulation. Reproductive health will be improved with improvement in general awareness, sex education, family welfare information, sex determination and research for contraceptive pills.
